Casual wear = Athleisure
It’s official!! In 2016 the name “Athleisure” will be added to the Merriam-Webster dictionary….. a fashion trend that is defined as “Casual clothing designed to be worn both for exercising and general use.” Vague, but spot on. Most designers are getting into the game (no pun intended) as there is clearly an overwhelming desire for leisure/sport clothes that are stylish…. yet well designed. Also described as “gym to office” or “après sport” this trend has been evidenced by the large numbers of peeps who think it’s appropriate to wear yoga wear, leggings or sweat shirts just about anywhere. So big is “athleisure,” that Net-a-Porter has added in a new category called “Net-a-Sporter.”
Our two looks today are just that, stylish and well designed looks that one we have dressed up…. and one we have dressed down. Both our leggings are work out gear from the Adidas store and both function as workout clothes. But pop on an Alexander McQueen blazer with a black lace turtle neck, a pair of Thomas Wylde wedge booties and these leggings will take us from the gym to the boardroom in seconds. I fought this look up until a couple of weeks ago. A trend I thought would die a quick painful death… But ah…. no…. Athleisure has become bigger than a trend, it’s become a way of life…. and it’s here to stay.
With Lots of Athleisure Love,
Laura Dunn
